Tonight I was drenched from a flying beer can tonight along with three others. If I knew the exact dumbass kid who through it, they would have a ass beating. Instead, security threw a group of them out. This is especially worse for me since I don't drink beer and the smell of it makes me sick. My game worn jersey got covered in it as well.

At the last beer night, Kara was almost struck in the head by a un-opened beer can after the game ended.

The **** needs to stop now. Sorry for the cussing, I'm just furious over tonight. I told my account rep about it, but who knows if anything will be done. I'm hoping all of you could also mention a word to your account rep to end all of this.

Weren't you the one saying there were 12,000 other seats in the arena?

Kidding aside, I noticed a few people getting kicked out and a gathering of USBA staff around 110 with the Toledo fans. Tonight was just a bad atmosphere all around. I couldn't get into the game or the crowd and that's a rarity for me.

Uh, Randy... Not sure why you complained to your account rep, you weren't in YOUR seat to begin with!

Didn't you know since you were down in the front row, you're responsible for the "Beer-a-mids"! They were just helping you out.

(joking aside, sorry You, Lexi and Kara had that happen to you.)

It seems like most $1 beer nights are pretty well behaved. It's amazing to me that people get so excited to pay $1 per can for pabst and high life.

I was actually seriously considering going to the game tonight...glad I didn't go now. But I have to ask...why would a sports facility sell unopened containers of beer? Every stadium/arena I've ever been to OPENS the beers before handing them to the customers. And not that it would hurt any less, but I also thought that most sports facilities only sell beers in plastic bottles, or pour them into plastic cups. If the arena allows vendors to sell unopened cans of beer to fans, or even allow the fans to take the cans with them, then that is a stupid decision, and the problem can be minimized by just making a few changes to the beer sales policy.

Some arenas make people over 21 wear bracelets and have the bracelets hole punched... so they don't go over a limit of a certain amount purchased.

Yeah, that's a little bit too "big brother" for me. I don't like to have someone (whether it's an arena, a bar, or MADD) try to dictate to me how many drinks I can have when I'm out. Although I don't care to wear a bracelet the whole game, I understand that it's probably more efficient than carding everyone every time, like they do in Columbus, which is an even bigger pain in the ass. But I've never been to a game where they punch holes in them to limit someone's drinks. Of course, if they really wanted to, a person could either go back to get another bracelet once his limit was punched, or if bracelet distribution was limited to a certain time, a person could just try to get more than one at the beginning of the night. Surely the arena would have more than one person handing out bracelets, and even if only one person were handing them out, it couldn't be expected that one person could remember every person to whom he/she already gave one.

But when people are throwing beer cans, something needs to be done. It's not a bar or club, it's a hockey game. When you go to a bar you expect drunk idiots, but at hockey games you shouldn't be afraid of sitting somewhere looking around you for flying beer cans, period.

When people are throwing beer cans, ANYWHERE, something needs to be done. When I go to a bar (don't do the club scene), I shouldn't be afraid of sitting somewhere looking around for flying beer cans. Depending on the bar, the night, or the promotion, many times sporting events are worse places for drunk idiots than bars. Now that I actually think about it, I think I've seen more "flying" drinks/drink containers at sporting events than at bars. Either way, it's truly unfortunate that these people act that way, and it screws things up for those of us who are responsible. Oops, wait, I guess I'm NOT really "responsible" anymore, according to the law's definition of "responsible", thanks to these idiots. What's the limit down to now, .04 or so? Soon you might get a DUI if you get pulled over after sitting next to someone who was drinking....you know, that secondary alcohol (or is it a contact drunk?)

You have diarrhea of the keyboard. You also need to remember that US Bank arena is not a bar or club. There are still children that go to the beer games, fans are not ID checked when they buy tickets.

People at bars don't exactly throw beer cans at people 10-20 feet away from them. You are making this way too complicated.

Not complicated at all. I thought we were just having a good discussion. But here are some simple facts: As long as beer is sold at sporting events, beer will be thrown at sporting events. The cheaper the beer, the more drunk idiots. The Cyclones need to have cheap beer nights to get people to come to weeknight games. Sports facilities cannot prevent people from doing stupid crap, they can only react to it. Throwing people out of the arena is the correct remedy for the situation. Preventative measures can be taken by pouring all beverages into plastic cups.

Hope that's not too many words for ya. :P

cheap beer nights...where to start..

first off i like them, but even i was a bit disturbed by the actions of a few. when kara almost got hit at the last weds game, i dismissed it as an isolated incident. however after a second incident, i agree that some steps need to be taken.

the first few $1 beer nights the arena staff poured the beer into plastic cups. at the time the $1 beer was only sold at 3 or 4 kiosks and the lines were horrendous which prompted the arena to switch to selling to open cans. since they now sell both pbr and molson at the concession stand why not just sell $1 pbr's in 12oz cups from the stands, 24oz cups for the molson, and also have the kiosks pour into cups. since the cheap beer will be available throughout the arena the lines shouldn't be a problem and it could help to disperse the pockets of drunken idiots. the group that threw the can towards randy last night was sitting in a section in which the isle lead directly to the beer kiosk and there were about 3 other groups of drunken idiots sitting in the same area.

another thought, since a beer-a-mid may have been what led to the can being thrown, how about banning them. i've had several fans tell me that they got a kick out of the first one because is was a spontaneous thing, but now with them popping up everywhere around the glass with they are becoming quite annoying.

How about a "beer-a-mid-free" zone?
