Does anyone know about this challenge? From WLW's website:

quote:
No $1 Hot Dogs, No Willie!
Willie challenges Cyclones to $1 Hot Dog night or he doesn't show.

Can we pay a extra dollar for Cunningham NOT to show?

---------------

On a separate note, one of my parents called me today and told me they heard that Bill was replacing Wildman as the announcer (they listen to 700 WLW and said Bill announced this). I asked them three times if that is really what they heard... I really hope that is not true.

The best thing is the station is talking about the Cyclones.

Randy...I heard something tonight and at 230 friday afternoon, Willie going to say something about his bobblehead night.. As much as I hate the Willie bobblehead I think that game will bring in 12,000 fans.

Anyone who cares about the Cyclones' attendance numbers and revenue should absolutely LOVE this promotion. Love or hate Willie, you'd have to be an absolute idiot not to welcome the publicity and crowd he will bring to this game. Cyclones fans should be hoping for him to show up for this, and for him to let everyone know ahead of time that he WILL be there, and possibly say a few words to the crowd during pregame or one of the intermissions.

There is a better way to promote the team than using someone who has bashed the Cyclones in the past.

If anything, they could have done a Chad Johnson or Carson Palmer bobble head as much as I HATE the Bengals. Bengals fans would be pouring in for buying tickets and beer all night long.

I've always wondered how hard it would be to goose-step on ice. Guess we'll find out.

Who cares what has been said in the past. As long as there are 12k tickets sold, and the Cincinnati Cyclones are heard acrossed the nation's station.

You people predicting 12,000 are crazy. Obama night only had 8-9K (I forget exactly which) A local, uber-conservative talk show host does not have that kind of draw. It has the possibility to be decent, but I highly doubt it will reach double digits.

I totally agree. If anything it'll be a regular weekend game.

How many other annoying radio personality bobble heads have they done and what were those attendance numbers?

Wildman was on with Willie today and whether you like Willie or not he reaches thousands of people across SW Ohio and was plugging the Cyclones hardcore. The whole thing with Wildman was a bit annoying, but they got the message out. The Cyclones can only benefit from this kind of publicity. Smart move on their part.

ONLY 8-9K? That's pretty good for a team that is "only" averaging 3600 a game. And no discounted tickets for that one, or the Willie game. Plus, Obama didn't go on the city's number one radio station and promote the game. I won't go as far as predicting a number, but I will say that TRUE Cyclones fans...you know, the ones that are interested in the financial welfare of the team...won't be disappointed with the attendance number that night. And yes, a local, uber-conservative talk show host DOES have that kind of draw. Willie is one of the most listened to radio personalities in this city, and people RESPOND to him, as they do other radio personalities. Remember, the biggest Cyclones crowd ever at the Gardens was on a night when the promotion was Dallas Eakins shaving Wildman's head.

Cyclones = a business, and they will do anything to sell tickets, and willie will sell if he talks about them on 700 WLW

Learn to take posts in the right context. I never said the attendance on Obama night wasn't good, I was merely comparing it to those saying the Cunningham bobblehead will draw 4,000 more than the president, days after he took office. Interesting how you're so confident that the draw will be huge yet you're not comfortable "putting a number on it". That should make you look pretty good whether it's a huge crowd or a disappointment, huh. Keep up the good work!

Sincerely yours,

~ "TRUE Cyclones fan"

my concern is this, BC has bashed the cyclones in the past. yes, he is all about promoting the team now because he is getting a bobble head, but they are only giving out 2,500 of them. what is he going to say on the air when people call in after the game and say they didn't get one? let's say the promotion draws 5000 non season ticket holders to the game, that means half will go home with out a bobble head. if a few of those call or email bill, i'm sure he will no doubt spin it to a negative cyclones angle.

therefore, if you do not want a BC bobble head, please to not take one. let them go to people that might actually want one. the more BC fans that get one and call or email bill about how great the promotion was the more continued good press the cyclones could get from BC.

The right bobblehead promotion (as the Cyclones found out last season) can be the ultimate crowd draw. Check this out:http://www.cleveland.com/monsters/index.ssf/2010/01/lake_erie_monsters_entertain_r.html

quote:
The Monsters defeated the Texas Stars, 5-4, Friday night in overtime in front of 18,626 patrons and 10,000 Shaquille O'Neals at The Q.

The Shaq bobblehead giveaway helped produce the largest crowd in the three-season history of the franchise. It also ranks number five on the American Hockey League's all-time list for regular-season attendance.

I really do question the decision to only distribute 2,500 of the Bill C. trinkets. I'd think that the Cyclones could have easily promised another 2,500 given the recent history of post Jan. 1 weekend draws. Leaving too many people without the promotional item is not good policy.
