CINCINNATI -- Friends, family, and complete strangers raised money for a fallen Florence, Ky. Marine by watching a hockey game Wednesday night.

Lance Corporal Adam Peak, 25, was killed by a bomb in Afghanistan on Sunday while on patrol. His
family says he was patrolling the outer perimeters of a camp when the explosion happened.

Adam's friend Aaron Judd arranged Wednesday's fundraiser where $5 from every ticket purchased through their group went to a scholarship fund.

"We're expecting 135 people, and if we do all that, that's $635 to start off the scholarship fund on top of the endless number of people who are looking to make donations already," said Judd.

Marine veteran Don Cavanaugh, from Covington, Ky., came to show his support for his family friend.

"I've known several people now that have died in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last couple of years and its difficult," said Cavanaugh.

Adam's 23-year-old brother Sean is also a Marine and was serving in a nearby camp in Afghanistan. He returned Wednesday afternoon.

"When they heard about this, they started spreading the word and more and more people started showing up. I say their goal is just to get as many people here, donate as much money to start this scholarship up, " said Peak.

You can donate to the LCpl Adam D. Peak Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.

Or mail a check to:

LCpl Peak Memorial Fund
430 Creek Noll Court
Elsmere, KY 41018

All the money raised will go towards a Scholarship at Thomas More College in LCpl Peak's honor.

Channel 12 had a story about this on their 11 p.m. newscast, too. Nice (but sad) story, I hope a lot of people gave a little to the cause at the game.

Anybody else find it weird that nowhere in the article did it mention the Cyclones? Only the video.
