I disagree with this part of your statement. As bad as the scores in the first 10 games were, more often than not it was 2-on-1s, breakaways, no defense, and rebounds that went uncleared. That doesn't even include the pathetic pk where the backdoor was always open and exploited.

Was the goaltending perfect? No. Was it good enough to keep the team competitive? Absolutely.

Agreed.

The team is currently better than it was for the first dozenish games, but that isn't saying much since that performance was pretty pathetic in every way.

My frustration is that what we are looking at now has gotten consistent and appears to be as good as this team is going to be, and we KNOW it can be much better.
I'm very disappointed.

While I think the Cyclones can (and will) get better as the season progresses, they are not the most talented of teams.

There are no natural goal scorers on this team. Sproat might have been the only player even capable of scoring 30 goals this season and he won't because of the number of games he will play due to starting his season overseas. This lack of "hands" is something no coach can change.

The Cyclones lack team speed. When Florida was in town, it reminded me of what the 2007-08 Cyclones looked like versus everyone else: Much faster. Skalde didn't recruit this and can't change this either.

At times, the team has played with great enthusiasm. Other times, they haven't. This is a team with a pretty significant veteran core and it really is up to them to come up with the effort they need to be successful. They were able to summons that effort last season sufficiently (along with great goaltending) to win a Cup. Perhaps some of our veterans need to take a long look at themselves. Maybe they've won enough to satisfy their competitive urges and aren't willing to make the sacrifices necessary. That is strictly conjecture on my part, but a coach can only motivate so far; the rest must come from within.

This is a team which is going to have to work very hard to be successful. While the coaching staff may not be the equivalent of Weber and Stork, the veteran core of players on this team are much more responsible for instilling a team work ethic than the coaching staff. These veteran players have been part of Championship teams and could surely approach Skalde if his system isn't to their liking and I sincerely doubt that he would not listen with an open mind.

Last year's power play was 14th (out of 20). This year's is 18th (out of 19), so it's worse on a relative scale, but last season (even with the mighty Chuck Weber) we had a lousy power play.

Maybe it's the players.

Players or coaches: we can disagree all day about the cause. What we can't disagree about--and what is most discouraging to me-- is the results we see now are the same results we all saw early on. If I remember right, both the Championship teams started off slowly for a few weeks or a month but got progressively better as the year went on. This team has shown no improvement and it is frustrating to watch the same ineffective offense use the same system night after night and the PK back up and pack it in. Sorry HRC. I admire your confidence that they will improve, but the season will be nearly half way done by the end of next week and I see no signs of any changes, any spark, or any passion. In 15 home games, we have won 3 in regulation!!!!!. One of these was against Bakersfield and another a morning game. I love the game and have since I was a kid but it is painful to watch this team.

Sorry HRC, I'm also going to have to respectfully disagree with you. I appreciate your "Glass is half full" but this team really has shown no sign of improvement, despite the slow start and playing .500 since. When this team starts playing out of its conference, I am fully expecting it to get its butt handed to them.

I appreciate Skalde was late coming in and late getting a system in place. I believe there IS talent on this team, but he has no clue how to use them or develop them. I think ultimately the buck stops with him, and if he can't make a dramatic improvement by season end, either he will have to go, or a lot of fans will...

I agree with HRC that there aren't any superstar goal scorers on this team. Didn't have that last year either, and it didn't keep us from winning the whole thing.

Why?
Because the coach played a system that matched his talent, that's why.
And once the players bought into the success, they were on their way.

That is not happening now, and that IS on the coach. It IS his job to win with what he has, and since someone else has already proven it can be done Skalde has no excuses.

Sorry man, but right now if you give me the choice between ditching Skalde or ditching all of these players and letting Skalde build his own team... There is no hesitation for me.
Skalde goes.

Now that the Queen City Storm have folded, how about firing Scott Fankhouser and replacing him with Dwayne Zinger.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

The Storm folded?

No info on their website or the AAHL website.

Not announced but those within their organization (me) have learned SportsPlus has been sold and the new owners don't want them there. The owner of the Storm has already packed up the office and locker room contents and left for Dayton.

Rumor has it that Dwayne Zinger was the preferred assistant coach recommended by Coach Weber. Once Coach Skalde was hired he went his own way.

Hindsight being 20/20, Zinger probably would have been a better choice.

Where are they moving to in Dayton? Hobart in Troy? Centerville?

More "What could have been"...

Stork and Zinger behind the bench.
I think we'd have all been happier right now if it'd worked out. One look at current standings shows Stork can coach.

It's all Chucks fault. If he hadn't taken so long to find a job.
Kidding!
Sort of.

It wasn't decided until around 8:30. The owner was trying to get things worked out but couldn't. My son works there and helped the owner pack up. You'll just have to wait for it on the league website. The owner of the Storm was the equipment manager for the Bombers and he lives in Dayton.

Well, I'm glad you posted it.
