Everyone has made some very good points regarding the team. The bottom line is that we all love the team and want very badly for them to succeed. As frustrated as I get, I do have fun going to the arena and watching a game. Maybe not as much fun as the last two years, but still fun.
Heres the problem for me though, do I get season tickets next year, or wait and pick and choose some games based on what changes are made. I think I can relate to Catch22 very well in the fact that I can handle a loss, its part of it, but I dont feel the same after a loss this year as I did maybe last year or the year before. Last year I definitely felt like "we'll get'em next time," this year I dont feel that. It is different this year.

I personally am sure I will get some kind of season ticket package, but it will depend on how things go and what if any changes are made. Its not like you can't get tickets any time you want. I mainly get mine just to support the team and organization but I always have some left over at the end of the season or take a bunch of people and give them away.
At this point I am not overly concerned ownership won't do what is best for the team. The Cyclones aren't subsidized with county money playing in a taxpayer built stadium. They put another team like this on the ice and they could wind up with more people on the ice than in the stands every night, figuratively speaking of course.
BTW...Happy New Year everyone! |

#1 We have affiliate goaltenders, we cannot go out and get a guy like Ryan Nie, or Cody Rudkowsky, we are stuck and there is nothing we can do about it.
#2 Agree that the PP is horrible, and that is the number one priority to fix because we have not jumped on those chances at all, all year. #3 The PK has improved a little bit since the start of the year. #4 THIS IS THE ECHL you will have bad months and good months, losing streaks and winnning streaks. We are 11-12-7, last year we were getting on Mayer about being horrible in net and look what happened, Victoria lost around 12 or 13 straight before they finished with an above .500 record last year, THIS YEAR South Carolina started the season 8-12-1 a worst record then us, now they are 16-14-2. This league is never and will never be constant whether it be players or records, you think positive. |

I'm viewing this season with a few things in mind. They are:
1) We have been treated to 2 Championships in 3 years. The other 2 seasons have given us a Conference Finalist and a Division Finalist. We've had our fair share of winning. Ya can't win 'em all comes to mind.
2) This season's team was behind the 8 ball from the start. Had Weber been hired early in the off season by Rochester instead of July 27th, a new coach (likely Stork) would have been in place and recruiting could have progressed upon a normal path. The extremely late hire put the new coaching staff in a significant bind. Skalde was putting the finishing touches upon recruiting. The only problem with this is that it was for another team in another league. His chances of recruiting the team he could have and really wanted were about zero. This is not an excuse. It is a fact.
3) I like hockey. There's always things to enjoy at every game. This season's most enjoyable aspect has been the physical play of the team. While the Cyclones don't bang around their opponents quite enough to suit my tastes, they are much more physical than under any of Weber's teams. Minnella has been fun to watch develop and there have been plenty of nice goals scored by the Cyclones this season.
4) Benn Olson. Simply Awesome. The best fighter- BY FAR- that I've seen in Cincinnati for a long, long time.
5) The social element of the game (seeing people that I've come to know for years, meeting outside friends at the game, etc.) is just as enjoyable whether the team wins or loses. Actually, listening to some of the guys I sit around rip the current team makes it a little more fun at times
6) It only cost $9 bucks per ticket
7) The season is only 40% complete. So it ain't even close to being over. |

Lost 6-2 at Toledo with a short bench on top of all the other problems.
Yuck.

I was up in Dayton and watched the Gems play Fort Wayne. Two things about the teams I saw seemed very apropos to the Cyclones current situation.
1) Fort Wayne is coming off of 3 straight Championships. They are in last place (new league). They kept the same core of players which won them 3 Championships. The problem is that these guys are getting old and just can't skate with a much quicker and younger Gems team. Note: The game went to FTW 4-3 in a SO, but Dayton just ran out of gas as they were playing their 6th game in 7 nights.
Breaking up a Championship core doesn't happen preemptively. It only happens when the Championships stop. That makes sense. At some point Fort Wayne will have to make some very tough decisions regarding long time veterans. I believe the Cyclones are facing exactly the same dilemma.
2) Dayton has a strong quarterback on its power play. Greg Labenski literally runs it. The plays start with him and he barks out instructions to the other players during the power play.
The Cyclones stand no chance of righting the ship unless the pp becomes effective. We absolutely need someone to become a leader on the pp. It seems obvious that this someone is not on the roster right now. While obtaining a star player at this point in the season is probably out of the question, a capable point man with leadership qualities is not. The fate of the Cyclones season may depend on such an acquisition.

Two teams with the same problem- maybe we should get together and trade veterans to maybe spark new life into both teams. |

I think Sawyer was probably that PP anchor you speak of. Skalde showed him the door.

No doubt.
Unless Sawyer is playing in some obscure European league or a senior league in Canada, it appears that he's out of hockey.
There's got to be a real good reason why Skalde cut him after the guy scored 4 points in 2 games. Or Sawyer simply wanted out and Skalde released him for that reason. |

Who knows.
Seemed to be playing OK, and had a career year last year. Seems odd to just disappear. I figured he and Skalde just didn't get along, which is often the case when something like that happens.
