Any doubt that the Enquirer was clueless about hockey should be cast aside after Friday's Edition in which they listed the top ten local sports stories for 2010 and of course nothing on the Kelly Cup win or the comeback from 0-3 against Reading which at the time was the 2nd time that had happened in all of professional hockey. It is a shame--not to say disgraceful-that the club--and Miami hockey--receive such a lack of coverage from this "newspaper" Would also include the lack of coverage the AHL Ducks received. Go to the website of the newspaper of any other ECHL cities and you will find coverage on their team. Sports editor is Barry Forbis at bforbis@enquirer.com. Below is my letter to him and would hope others would also contact him.
Mr. Forbis
Any doubt I had that your department was clueless if not biased against hockey were erased Friday after looking at the subject article in your sports section. Not to have included the Cyclones Kelly Cup run including being only the 2nd team at the time in all of professional hockey history to come back from an 0-3 deficit- was shameful as it had to have been made consciously by you and your staff. This is the culmination of your record of virtually ignoring not only the Cyclones but Miami U hockey where they have been ranked #1 for much of the last two years. I am obviously a hockey fan but I regularly visit the website of papers in other nearby ECHL/CHL cities, including Wheeling, Dayton, Fort Wayne, and Toledo and find regular coverage of their team. The only explanation I can think of is that somehow you think that coverage of minor league hockey is below a newspaper in a major league town, when in fact it reflects the fact that the paper itself is minor league by ignoring a sports story that was newsworthy as shown by the worldwide hockey coverage it received, and a sport that is growing rapidly in pro attendance as well as local participation at the high school and pee wee levels. Thanks for the Enquirers continued efforts to reach the many hockey fans in the area.

| Out of 90 pictures for Cincinnati Sports in 2010 1 picture was given to the team for the Championship. What a great newspaper we have. |

Cyclones repeat? Cincinnati boasts one of hockey's more successful minor-league franchises. And while the Cyclones have a new coach in Jarrod Skalde, the goal is to capture a second straight Kelly Cup championship in 2011.
Maybe they listened to the email- Top 11 stories for 2011, dont know about the repeat but they made it in the top sport stories. |
