David Desharnais was credited with his second NHL goal tonight, tipping in a shot while Montreal was on the power play.
With the goal, Desharnais surged past 11 goaltenders on the NHL's all-time career goal-scoring list. |

| Montreal had three forwards go down with injuries early in the first period and they did not return, thus the reason for the increase in ice time for Desharnais tonight. |

In the past 4 Montreal games:
David Desharnais: 2 goals/6 shots in 50 minutes playing with plodders. Salary $500,000. Prorated over 4 games: $24,000
Scott Gomez: 1 assist/5 shots in 75 minutes playing with Monreal's best wingers. Salary $7 million. Prorated over 4 games: $341,000.
In 2/3 the minutes @ 7% of the cost, DD has doubled the scoring output of Montreal's highest paid player. Per point, per salary unit, per minute played DD is outperforming Gomez by an approximate 42-1 ratio.
And Gomez took a stupid penalty which caused Montreal's loss to Buffalo last night. The game in which DD scored Montreal's ONLY goal.
If Montreal had a real coach, then DD would supplant Gomez as a top six forward. DD's the real deal. You're gonna have to DEAL with it. lol.

Gomez is a better skater than Desharnais. He's much stronger and faster. Gomez gets in on the forecheck. Desharnais does not. Gomez creates backside pressure through the neutral zone. Desharnais does not. Gomez could score five goals and 10 points a year and still be an asset to a team. Desharnais would not.
You can have Desharnais. Every NHL general manager, assistant general manager and coaching staff would take Gomez.
That's just the reality of the situation.

| After DD score the goal the announcers on VS were very positive on DD about how he has done nothing more then score at the AHL level even while being the smallest man on the ice and he has looked good being called up. Just saying, thats coming from VS people. |

Really? Every GM would take a washed up, $7 million salary cap hit over a bargain basement priced youngster? lol. The salary cap is a reality of the current NHL system. Gomez is an albatross whom the Canadiens would love to ditch. The reality is that a midget who has 3 points in 8 games is a more valuable trading commodity for the Canadiens than their highest paid player.
That is the reality of the situation.

Your analysis is consistent. Consistently wrong. DD is more than adequate defensively. He may not create as much pressure as Gomez (or he may), but he does create defensive pressure in all zones.
Even your hero, Jacques Martin, likes his defense.

| Winter storm prompts Turfway Park to cancel live racing today. Guess that means you'll have more time to dig up stats to compare guys with 800-plus games of NHL experience vs. 14 to illustrate how the one with 14 is the better player and value for their team. |
