Is it time for the Cyclones to break away from Nashville since they havnt really been sending players to us. Where would we be without Montreal and Hamilton.

If I had to select Montreal or Nashville to be aligned with, I'd go with Montreal. They have been historically a good team to be a farm team for. Nashville, I don't think they get the idea of how to handle a farm system. However, Ian is from the Nashville system.

To give the Nashville and Milwaukee credit we have had Ian McKenzie, Mark Santorelli, TJ McElroy was with them as was Juice but compared to Hamilton/Montreal not much help has come from them the past 3 years Dov, Bryan Schmidt, Ryan Maki are all i can remember, where we once had most of the team either under are control or Hamilton

Something to consider...

Maybe Nashville doesn't have anyone to send you right now.

Another quick thought- we are the AA level. Technically, the HABS and the PREDS don't want to send us anyone from Hamilton or Milwaukee... they want us to develop players for them, so that means that they often times send players down to work on something in particular.

Say a player needs to work on his D... then he gets sent down to lose at this level and strengthen his game, rather than cause losses at the higher level. There isn't much to it... If you think that it would be a good idea for the team to run with no affiliate at all, you have lost your mind... Dayton, somehow is doing okay with that but, the affiliations help out in the LONG TERM

where would we be without the affiliates...how about just another team without a kelly cup.

sometimes the affiliations help sometimes the hurt...that's just the way it goes. deal with it.

and if you think we could have won last year without the affiliations i'm going to laugh at you until i'm blue in the face.....

I think you're taking rich's post in the wrong text ... he was just questioning our status with the Nashville affiliation, he never said we should go without affiliations and stated that most of our help has come from Montreal.

We would be Kelly Cup-less and at best 3 pts ahead of where we stand now... also known as the Dayton Bummers ;)

Even if we aren't having a championship season, we are seeing a lot of guys come and go and develop along the way and that's something I really enjoy. Sure it sucks when we lose guys off our roster, but there's nothing better than when I see guys I watched in minors playing in the AHL and even greater in the NHL.

by saying "where would we be without montreal and hamilton." (yes it's a question and he used a period.) it seems to me like he's saying we are better off without them as well. as far as MIL/NASH goes need i remind you about maki and schmidt. yeah i know i was all over schmidt during the regular season but come playoffs he showed what he was capable of and without him i'm not sure we accomplish what we did. maki put in good minutes as well, as did max daigneault. again i must stress...sometime affiliations work in your favor and sometimes it's just like they leach the system. just because one season doesn't work in your favor doesn't mean you should abandon it. as far as this season goes, we started with stephen werner who was part of the MIL/NASH system and he got called up when mark van guilder got released from his PTO sending him here. also, tj mcelroy started the season with MIL and has bounced back and forth. there is no way to foresee the injuries or trades that ahl or nhl teams may make which may affect us...it just goes with the territory. last season we lost cory urquhart, while he was playing some of his best hockey, in a trade the brought olivier latendresse here. many bitched, myself included, until we saw latty play.

we can't win 55 games every year. we can't win a kelly cup every year. the affiliates aren't going to stock us with maki's, schmidt's, daigneault's, russell's, desharnais', desjardin's, beauregard's and aubin's every year. and just because they don't is no reason to turn our backs on them. yes, we want to win, but at the level of hockey we are at sometimes we just have to take pride that our coach's can turn and guide players into ahl caliber players.....

If you're referring to Nashville as the team we would be better off without, then I think you get what he was trying to convey. I don't take it that he meant we would be better off without the Montreal/Hamilton affiliation with that quote, but more saying we would be nowhere without that affiliation, where as the Nashville one hasn't been much. For the record I'm not agreeing with him, but I get what he was saying.

i've been drinking and given the fact that i pretty much always type on the lower case, i think i did pretty well spelling wise...i forgot the "d" in "good", i didn't get the tense right on "sometime", i used "leech" rather than "leach", mistyped "how" where i should have used "who", i put an extra pointless "n" on the end of "sending", i fat fingered when typing "it" and inadvertently typed "iut", and good god my tense was all over the chart in that second section. all will be fixed in a moment...perhaps you should stick to proof reading and leave the coaching and management of the team the chuck...just a thought...

Well, the long and short of it is, if Coach Weber thought either affiliation was a hinderance, he'd drop them in a heartbeat. Those on here who say we wouldn't have the Cup without them are 100% correct. I'd rather have two than none regardless as to the team record this year. Like I've said before, sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!
