They may have a new man in charge. Or them may not. Makes no difference to me.

Konopka played all of 39 NHL games in his first seven pro seasons before "making" it in the NHL. He also spent more time in the ECHL than DD did.

He was almost 29 years old before sticking in the NHL for a full season.

His stats:http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=42428

You're (unwittingly) making the case for Desharnais. Who, by the way, after a 3 assist and 1st Star performance, now leads the AHL points race by 4.

Not bad for a guy who would never make it (according to you) in the AHL.rotflmao.

The assessment from Hockey's Future:

Desharnais is intriguing offensively. He is small in todays NHL standards, but that has never prevented players from skating in the big league. He has a strong instinct around the net and is excellent with the puck.

The young center likes to use his teammates in the best possible way but will never shy from shooting the puck. He has scored 65 goals in his last two years with Chicoutimi.

He is also a good leader in and out of the rink. He was the Saguenens captain and has always been able to gain opponents respect.

Desharnais got nice reviews from the Canadien radio broadcasters after the game.

They said that he looked like he wasn't nervous, that he fit in and that if it weren't for the Atlanta goalie's great play that his line could have scored a time or two.

DD logged 13:23 of playing time as the 3rd line center (Darche and Pouloit were his wingers). All of his time was at even strength.

He had 3 shots (he only had 2 total in all 6 games he played in MTL in the 09-10 season). He was -1 and the announcers didn't fault him for the goal.

DD won 5 of 6 face offs.

Not a bad start and it looks like his lame coach Martin gave him ample playing time albeit between two relative stiffs. Nonetheless, he was given a shot as a 3rd liner and not miscast as an 4rth liner.

DD's Habs play two more times this week (both at home). Thursday vs. Pittsburgh and Saturday vs. Boston.

quote:
Centering Benoit Pouliot and Mathieu Darche, Desharnais brought that line back to life and they looked dangerous every time they were on the ice.

Checking in at 5'6" in height, Desharnais fearlessly went straight to the net every time he was in the offensive zone, which is a boon for the Canadiens who are in short supply of players willing to pay the price in front of the opposing goaltenders.

Desharnais, digging the puck out of the corners, fearlessly going to the front of the net and playing much bigger than his 5'6" frame, makes the Canadiens a better team. Now one game does not make a career but, right now, Desharnais looks much more NHL ready than Eller and I would not hesitate to send the latter down to Hamilton to get more seasoning.

Desharnais is solid with the puck and defensively responsible without it. This is exactly the type of player that Jacques Martin loves.

From the Montreal Gazette and its #1 Canadiens writer:

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/have+play+better+Price+says+after+loss/4051221/story.html

quote:
David Desharnais made his season debut after being called up from Hamilton and didn't look out of place. He played 13:23, had three shots on goal and won five of his six faceoffs.

"I think I did a good job and hopefully we can score some goals the next game," said Desharnais, who was the leading scorer in the American Hockey League when he was called up.

Fans in Hamilton will have a chance to see him play again this season at Copps Coliseum. Sooner than later.

Which one of your "inside sources" told you this?lol

As you said often times on one of the message boards you killed (hackers grovel): "the only way Desharnais is going to watch an NHL game is by buying a ticket". Maybe he'll leave you one! lol.

Just admit you're wrong about DD (and CD and Weber) and that you can't evaluate hockey talent. You'll feel much better

Oh no!!! What a delimma! Because of what a fan from Section 110 at USBA says about me, people that matter in the world of professional hockey will now think I don't know anything about hockey and will never invite me to watch NHL game day morning skates, never ask me for my opinion about players, provide me with complimentary tickets to games and media passes again!

108

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Section 120 too. It is obvious to me though that from your Hall of Fame type career and what your position is now in the hockey world, those "people that matter in the hockey world" already know your level of expertise. Which team is it that you are now GM or Director of Player Development for Donnie?

I was correcting Donnie, he sits in 108. Donnie is a friend of mine since way back when.

Pat Hickey from The Gazette on Desharnais after the Atlanta game:

We saw a gritty player, but what we didn't see was the player teammate Max Pacioretty described as "the best player I've ever played with."

Ever hear of a link? Your (lack of) integrity in these parts and common internet decorum necessitates one. Links also allow for the reader to see the context and the complete story. Comprendez vous?

Here's the link (if you don't know how to make a link google it):
http://www.faceoff.com/hockey/nhlnews/Desharnais+should+chance/4056343/story.html

Here's how dh INTENTIONALLY took it out of context (self explanatory by quote):

quote:
Can David Desharnais be a productive player in the National Hockey League?

We may never learn the answer to that question.

The Canadiens recalled the 24-year-old centre from the Hamilton Bulldogs last week and he made his season debut in Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Atlanta Thrashers. Desharnais, who was named the American Hockey League player of the month for December yesterday, had a credible game. He played a career-high 13:23 and was given more ice time as the game progressed.

He was bumped around a bit, which is to be expected when you're 5-foot-6, but he had three shots on goal and won five of his six faceoffs. We saw a gritty player, but what we didn't see was the player teammate Max Pacioretty described as "the best player I've ever played with."

And we're not likely see that player unless the Canadiens give him a chance to play on one of the top two lines, or give him some time on the power play.

Is he ready for that role? Nobody knows, but the only way to find out is to give him a chance and the time is probably right because the offence is in need of help.

Pacioretty (when asked to explain when originally quoted) amended that comment to "in the AHL".

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Bulldogs+Desharnais+draws+rave+review+from+Pacioretty/3973139/story.html

quote:
"He's the best player I've ever played with," Pacioretty said. He later noted that Desharnais is the best player in the American Hockey League.

Further, the lead columnist shares my view that DD needs first or second line time and some pp time to be properly evaluated.

I don't know what's better. DD going to the NHL or dh's "I matter to hockey people who really matter" bitterness about it. lol

How many minutes do you think DD will play in Montreal's next game? I think he'll get about 12-13.

How can you "quote" the writer to make your point in one post and then slam him in your next post when caught using only the the part that seemed to support you???? Nice job HRC.

If DD is to stick it is because of his ability to set people up and even the writer points out that he needs a set of wings that can score. His set up ability would be lost on a 3rd or 4th line. We will see what happens
